Mother's Day. Spent with some of the people I hold closest to my heart. My husband and 5 kiddos --my mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law. Dear friends in our small, family-style church which I love. Time alone as well. I took an 8-mile bike ride in the glorious sunshine. Spring was in the air, and all was well the the world.
My heart was missing time spent with my own mother. She's 600 miles away, but we'll be there soon. The end of May. For now, though, my heart thinks of her and the miles that separate us.
As I looked at this beauty of God's creation and attempted to photograph it today, I couldn't help but think of my mother, too. So much like this delicate flower.
-Beautiful--Not only is she physically beautiful--the beauty of her heart, enwrapped in God's presence--overflows through her words, the way she thinks of others constantly, and her actions. She is the TRUE meaning of beauty.
-Created by God
-A quiet presence--she doesn not want or need to be the center of attention. She finds her confidence not through what others say and think of her, but through who God says she is in His word. She also has the gift of listening--oh, if we counted the hours she has spent listening to my siblings and I. It would be amazing. Never pushing her ways onto us. Never telling us what we should do. Advising when asked--and it's definitely asked for. However, she's mostly listening and loving at the same time.
-Delicate and feminine--she is the mark of what true femininity looks like. Sacrificial in her love to others--a true servant's heart--unconditional love toward others.
On this Mother's Day I can't help but think of her with a heart of gratefulness for all she is to me, and to others. If only all people were blessed enough to have a mother like mine. I love you, Mom!
At our little farm, there was a lot of wrangling going on--wrangling, you say? Oh, yes. Wrangling of all types. Wrangling of kids into hugs and smooches--wrangling of ducks who may not want to go back into their home after going for a swim--wrangling bubbles from the air into eager little hands ready to pop them.......
{For those of you wondering when the wild edibles posts will be...I am trying to do them this week. Hopefully the first one will be up at some point tomorrow. You know, between--meals, laundry, driving to and from classes, exercising, reading to kiddos------see you then!}
P.S. No ducks were harmed in the making of this blog post!
