The depths of winter surround our home here in Indiana. The drifts are piled high after our blizzard last week. The pile daddy plowed up from the snow in the drive, is deliciously high which makes for delightfully long snowball fights, with good protection! The sound of the wind here never ceases to amaze, and frighten me a little. My home in the woods of MN, was protected by the trees, so the wind never seemed quite so fierce. I feel a little bit like Laura in Little House in the Big Woods. The wind does indeed sound like the wolves howling, which if you listen on certain nights, you really do hear the wolves as well. This excites my husband, Cowboy S (my six yr. old), and our lab to no end. They throw open the windows and use his coyote call to howl back...and what a thrill to all when they answer!
We tend to rise here while it is still dark, for the sun doesn't rise until around 8 a.m. How I long again to rise to the rays of the sun shining in my room! I do love to see the snow on the windows, looking just like a picture book. And, I must say, the sight of my littles in their cozy jammies, and getting a warm morning hug, makes missing the sun a bit quite worth it.
A morning does not pass, that Cowboy S doesn't sit or lay on the floor with Sir W, the baby, and play and talk with him for long periods of time. They enjoy playing the choo-choo game best, where Cowboy S moves babies' legs back and forth making a train chugging sound, and then tugs on his arm gently while calling "toot-toot" and blowing the whistle. Our littlest adores this time, and has just starting making that little noise that occurs when he sucks in his breath and tries to vocalize at the same time. Adorable.
Sir W, loves his big bro, and I think he is more excited by him than by anything in the world. Quote from Cowboy S last week to his baby brother: "You know my favorite thing God created? You!"
And lest I forget, within 3 minutes 2 seconds of rising out of her bed, I or someone in our bustling household, is asked to adorn Miss Lady K in one of her many dresses.....and beware that a tantrum might ensue, if you forget the apron on top and make sure to tie it tight, and just under the arms, not at the waist...thank you very much.
With morning now in full swing....I gaze out on the beauty of a new day. I am reminded of him mercies being new each morning. A day to live for Him, to lead my children ever closer to the one who created them, and loves them even more than I.
A fresh start deserves a nourishing breakfast...don't you think? What do you love about the morning rhythms in your home? Hugs from those with warm, rosy cheeks and sleepy eyes? Those "morning mama's" from your little ones with still scratchy voices? Share in the comments if you like...I'd love to hear.
