Has your house every spoken to you?
Mine does. Really.
They are very loud...these walls.
They say things like, "Can't ya decorate us already? I mean, come on, we've been sitting here a few years now!" (They speak in a New York accent, too.)
The one that yelled the loudest, or at least got my attention as of late is a main wall in the living room. It was big and blank. And not only did this wall yell at me..it kinda stared at me as I would walk by.
Not good.
So, I finally mustered up some mental energy....I tell you when you have 2 teens in the house....plus little ones...and your pregnant!....mental energy is hard to come by! I needed to think of an inexpensive way to decorate said wall. Okay then. I decided to wrangle some of the kids and see if they would pause for a photo. I told them to choose something nice to wear, but I didn't care about the color. I had the idea in mind that using greytone or a version of black and white would keep me from coordinating their colors in clothing, and would make the photographs come together nicely when hung on a wall near each other.
This was ALOT easier than getting the kids in fancy clothes, driving to a photo place, waiting in line, and of course the payout usually isn't too cheap either. Of course, I've gone that route, but I choose to now stay away. Plus, the mall is a 45 minute drive from my house......that is, when it's sunny, we somehow miss all the red lights, we don't get behind any TRACTORS, and noone has to stop for a potty break.
I bought the Kodak printer paper at Wal-mart, and I bought the frames there as well. It was a quick and easy project. I did take maybe 8 photos of each child, maybe more, hoping at least to have a few good photos to choose from. The point was not to have a perfect picture, but to somehow get a glimpse of them through this photograph. If I was going for "that perfect shot", I am sure I would never have been satisfied and I would have had some very cranky children as well!
Right now I do not have this photo in the frame, as you might notice in the last photo. I decided to switch for this one instead, which has more of a crisp outline in the black and white, which is similar to the others.
{And, I tell ya, she looks almost a little too angelic in this photo......she's got horns holdin' up her halo, if ya know what I mean! However, I must recall my post as of late, and remember the positive...yes, remember the positive side of two!}
I scanned this wedding photo and enlarged it to the same size as the other photos, and changed it from it's original colors to greytone as well.
And guess what? My wall is now quiet! However, there are still a few talkin' to me....one at a time folks....one at a time!
Warmly,
Joy
